Yoga retreats at The Cha Yoga Centre, in the Coimbra region of Portugal.

The Cha Centre is in the foothills of the Serra da Lousã, near the river Ceira. Our aim is to make the teachings of yoga available through asana (posture) practice, pranayama (yogic breathing) and meditation, with the guidance of an experienced teacher. The Centre offers the space and time for you to be; to find the stillness which ultimately is where everything happens.

Cha Yoga Centre has been reconfigured and a new house with a yoga terrace, Chestnut House has just been finished. It's pictured below.

Here at Cha a stillness in nature helps create the space inside where we can re-tune ourselves, begin to let go… and if yoga is about anything, it is about letting go. There are many opportunities to sink into nature, with wild swimming in the river and at numerous river beaches, hill walking, or just sitting on one of the terraces at Keys House with a book or below in the garden near the fig trees, butterflies and songbirds. Sometimes it's better to just rest, we lead such hectic lives with endless input we've forgotten how to be still and quiet in nature and so be in our own true natures, inseparable from the earth and the creatures we share it with.

Stays are available for periods of up to two weeks for individuals, couples or small groups of up to six people. Each person is able to be taught individually as well as in a group - we're all different and we all start (and grow) from a different place!

We rescue dogs, and work with two rescue centres in Portugal; one in Lisbon and one in the Algarve. There are four dogs at the moment up at Cinnamon House - they love doing yoga in the sun, and you’re welcome to visit and say hello.

Local Area

The Cha Centre is self-catering and vegan. Breakfast is provided and help with vegan cooking is on hand if needed. There are organic fruits and herbs in our garden and basics are available like teas, organic brown rice, oats, soya milk and almond milk. A yogic life style is followed here so there is no alcohol, but mobile phones can be used and there is free high speed internet access (we ask that generally phones are switched off in communal areas and in particular around the yoga terraces).

Outside the Centre you will find food shops close-by in Serpins (including two bakeries, a small supermarket and various cafes), as well as a cafe at the local river beach. The town of Lousã is about fifteen minutes by car, with two large supermarkets and a big variety of shops and the city of Coimbra (former capital of Portugal) is about twenty five minute’ drive; a beautiful city with stunning botanical gardens, a famous university and preserved medieval old town.

Getting Here

The area of Coimbra is serviced by two airports, Lisbon and Porto with daily flights into both. Lisbon and Porto also have excellent rail links to Coimbra, and from there it’s a bus or taxi to Serpins where you’ll be collected.
